MODERN SHOTGUN COMPETITION

LOUISVILLE, KY

The Portland neighborhood of West Louisville is beginning to re-emerge thanks to the effort of private developers and city incentive programs. As much as 79 percent of the land use is residential homes, mostly vacant or abandoned shotguns. We entered a design competition for a shotgun home that could be a catalyst to transform the current housing market of West Louisville into a flourishing place to live once again. With it’s close proximity to the downtown workforce and access to the Ohio River waterfront there are many opportunities for this prototype grow. We utilize evaporative cooling and lift-and-slide doors acted as a means to directly cool the home while vertical fins screen direct light. Rainwater collection in a linear cooling pond create a connection to the Ohio river while acting as an agent for sustainability.
