WESTMORELAND RENOVATION

LEXINGTON, KY

This commission was to turn a 1971 ranch house into a more contemporary place to live. The original house was built in 1971 on a 2 acre lot, positioned on a north-south axis with the rear facade facing north overlooking the majority of the lot. The project consisted of demolishing the rear facade in order to add two new wings that flank a exterior covered porch. Regulating lines are consistent throughout the entire project that give this rectilinear building clear sight-lines that allow for spaces to be defined without having to build dividing walls and allowing most of the spaces to remain open and interconnected.  The design blends both traditional elements with contemporary features to create a unique transitional experience.
